For a heroic raid, there is no advantage to aborting it. You need a minimum of 2 days to earn the tickets for another attempt (even at a lower tier) anyway right? And the raid lasts for only 48 hours once launched.
Heroic raids expire, yes, but T-6 and lower do not - they will remain open indefinitely until completed or aborted. A lower GP guild could be stuck in a T6 Sith raid for weeks if they had no way to abort it.
