There are people who lose on purpose just to be in lower leagues or divisions, because they get all in all more crystals with less effort. They have already done the maths on how many matches they have to lose so they don't get promoted too much but can win enough to get a nice amount of guaranteed crystals without needing to fight hard.
I'm sure there are niche cases where that scheme works, but in general for it to work, one would have to be able to accurately predict their future win/loss ratio, and actually deliver the required number of wins. I am having a hard time believing that that is practical. And there is the "observer changes the observed" thing - when there are enough people doing this, they would run into each other in lower brackets and basically drag down every one's win/loss ratio.
It's not about being practical. It's because they don't want to put much effort in GAC and their fights. Lower opponents make it easier for them. They prefer to not face similar rosters, because they just can put in a lot less effort and still get their crystals. Even if they are less than they would get in "their" league or division, it savs them time and effort.
And like I said, not everyone does that sandbagging game. There are also those who just in general don't participate in every round, which leads to inflated SR.
But, we shouldn't even focus on what exactly they do or don't do or why. We should focus more on the effect it has on everyone who is in those match ups. There are way too many facing this to see, that this is an issue.
I can totally see people throwing matches to get easier opponents and spend less effort overall. And I would not judge them for that, as this is a game after all. My response was mostly about throwing matches hoping to win more and net more crystals.

Yes, matchmaking exists.
Yes, it's working as intended.
When will people finally understand that just because someone has a far superior roster, doesn't mean you can't beat them.
People that have seemingly overpowered rosters compared to others in their brackets are in those brackets FOR A REASON. Either they don't play or are bad at the game. If that wasn't the case, they wouldn't have dropped to these levels.
Strong people don't magically appear at your ranks to mess things up for you. They must have lost a good chunk of matches on their way there, and there's a good chance they will lose to you too. Just play your game and don't run to the forums the second you get an opponent that has a much better roster than you. If the matchup happened, then it's fair game.
Just remember: Even a Fiat can win a race against a Ferrari, if the Ferrari person doesn't know how to drive a car.
They will not stop as long as there isn't at least a little bit of balance. Everyone below Kyber is experiencing the same and it's just ridiculous and not fun. I think it's good that these posts exist. Because until recently CG wasn't even aware of this. They need to know how it is and that can only happen if enough people point it out to make it clear, that it is not just a rare thing.
I am also pretty sure that people understand very well how the System is supposed to work, but the reality is, it is only working in Kyber. And even there it is not working perfectly.
There are people who lose on purpose just to be in lower leagues or divisions, because they get all in all more crystals with less effort. They have already done the maths on how many matches they have to lose so they don't get promoted too much but can win enough to get a nice amount of guaranteed crystals without needing to fight hard.
Then you also have the inflation of people's SR because of no shows only for them to be then facing even bigger accounts because they got promoted/won.
Something needs to be done to balance it out at least a little.
My point is that these matchups are fine most of the time. I'm not saying it's all perfectly well, but it's not as much of an issue as people make it out to be, in ANY league. You're saying those matchups don't happen in Kyber, but they do. Even in Kyber 1 these "lopsided" matches happen where one person has a far superior roster. I just don't see it as an issue, because according to the skill rating both players are equally strong. What one person makes up with skill, the other makes up with roster strength.
A few hours ago I watched my 3.6M friend go up against a 6.0M account in GAC. The 6.0M player actually showed up and played the GAC. My friend still won because of superior strategy, despite being heavily outclassed roster-wise. And this is entirely my point. How is this an issue? If 2 people of such different roster strength manage to have an exciting and close battle, then the system did a good job of assessing their skill-rating the way it did and matching them with one another. It worked as intended, and it worked well.
Don't forget that OP complained about the matchups in their bracket, but ended up winning 2 out of 3 games. And this is VERY common. People that make these posts often end up winning their matches even though they came to the forums to complain, claiming it was "unfair", "unwinnable", a "slap in the face", "not WAI" etc. etc.. So no, these people don't seem to understand how the system works, otherwise they wouldn't come here to complain. Why would you come here to complain about a match that you have a good chance of winning? People come here and complain because they don't UNDERSTAND that they have a good chance of winning. This is my entire point.
And in regards to your point of people intentionally losing to get easier matchups in order to make more crystals. In the grand scheme of things, it's a myth. Nobody is doing that, or if they do, it's an unsignificant number of players (like 1 in 5000). Unless you have some data to prove that actually many people are doing this, the argument holds no merit whatsoever. Someone already did the math, and that method only earns those people like 100 crystals more a month, and only if it's executed properly. And the chances to execute it properly are super low as you can hardly predict your future month of GAC a month in advance.
So don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the current system is perfect or ideal, because it's not. But 95% of the posts in regards to matchmaking aren't actual issues, and things are by far not as bad as some people say. People just don't understand the system, or simply don't want to. After all, it's a lot easier to come here to complain, than to actually give the whole thing a second thought and realize that it actually isn't so bad after all. This game has so many problems, but GAC matchmaking is like the least of them. "Disruptor92;c-2356446" wrote:

I think it's interesting that you are the one who uses a number (1 out of 5000) and yet ask me to prove something. Can you prove your statement?
We can not see in other people's heads why they do something, but there are way too many whom it happens to. If it were as you say, then it would be quite odd that I seem to have hit the jackpot as well as quite a few guildmates, whom it also happens to quite often. Definitely more often than 1 in 5000.
Check Reddit or Discord where enough people in addition to here tell about their experiences that are not just a once or very rare occurence.
Maybe that should already be reason enough for CG that they should take a closer look at it all, maybe then we could get some numbers.
All in all I would like to state in general:
(The "you" will be used in general, not meaning you personally)
If someone is not affected/bothered and others clearly are, why even "argue" with them about something, you have no first hand knowledge of or that doesn't bother you? That somehow makes no sense.
If people experience something that makes them feel bad, where is the harm if they try to raise awareness to the situation in hopes of maybe finding a way or solution?
If something doesn't affect or bother you, why does it bother you, that those who are, bring it up? Do you lose something or does it affect you if a closer look is taken at the situation and if maybe something is introduced to make the situation for those affected better?- I'll admit there may be some issues with accounts that fall to the bottom. But the vast majority of complaints regarding GAC are not that. It's post after post of "wahhh 3m vs 5m... more GLs....waahhh" those whiners are clearly detracting from any actual issues that may exist.
In a very general sense many people here are quick to argue points that may not "seem" to directly affect them because 1. The complainer is just plain wrong and doesn't understand something. Or 2. There can actually be indirect effects caused by too much complaining.
Real issues will survive the scrutiny and eventually become evident. But like I said, it's the sea of ignorant whiners that bury actual issues. "MaruMaru;c-2356476" wrote:

What @Disruptor92 tries to debunk is this preemptive definition of people sandbagging to earn more crystals in lower divisions. I also haven't come across anyone that thought this is a good idea. Though many in my guild (where all are 8m+ gp) are tanking and occasionally play gac simply because they don't like the mode or can't be bothered to put too much time in it. If this definition is why you are encountering those folks, do you still think something needs to be done about it?
As I said, we can't look into people's heads so we can't know why they do something. That's why I also said that it isn't even relevant why it happens but that it happens.
@CCyrilS see the thing is, I don't think it's fair to call people whiners. Not only don't you know these people to be able to make that assumption but you also insult them just because they bring up something that you don't care about or that doesn't bother you. To you it might be no real issue but to them it is or they wouldn't bring it up.
We all are different people, we have different opinions and we all have different "triggers" that make us feel something. So if something is irrelevant to us but seems relevant to others I see no problem in them bringing it up. After all, I think they only wish for CG to take a closer look at the situation to see, if there is a problem and if there is, to maybe find a solution.
Since we all can't see behind the curtain and we all don't have a way of analysing the data, all we can do is to bring it to the attention of those who can. And for it to be considered a topic to be looked in to, there needs to be at least the point to show, that enough people seem to be affected.
All in all, even if some discussions may get heated, I personally enjoy to be able to talk to other fellow players and in the end we all should try to remember, that this is "just" a game but a hobby we all share, no matter how different we might be.
