Hello, Colemann_Trebor! My gaming name is GodIsOnTheMove... and I am a 3.3 million GP, Carbonite III player. I certainly haven't been around as long as some people, but... I think I can wade into this discussion. First of all, let me ask a question... why would CG have taken GAC off of GP based matchmaking? (And, no... I won't accept any answers that deal with money-making schemes.) Well, as I said, I haven't been around long... however, I can make a guess at why CG has matchmaking the way it is. (Mind you, it is only a guess.) I think the issues with changing GAC ultimately boil down to two things. The first is this... that, in changing the GAC standard to GP based matchmaking, an even worse problem arrises. (I could be wrong about what I am about to say, but we will see in the comments section.) I am a "disadvantaged" player... I have a fairly new account, very little GP, I am in Carbonite, and I am a F2P player. Most everyone that I face has somewhere between 2-5 times as much GP as I do... that screams "unfair," right? Well, no... I know how my characters interact with each other and I know how to effectively use them in combat. Skill will usually beat GP in the end... not always, but often enough for me to consistently advance little by little. That is my first point... current matchmaking allows for players to advance in GAC. If CG changed the system, I couldn't advance past my general GP level... so I would be stuck in Carbonite for a long time. It is actually a better money-making scheme for GAC matchmaking to be GP based... as players will foolishly buy Lightspeed Token Bundles to progress further, faster. (I am not saying that all who make that purchase are fools, only that it isn't always the wisest decision.) That is point one. The second point is that complaining will intensify a great deal. Imagine working for litteral years to get into the Kyber Division only to be kicked back a few Divisions into Bronzium... or worse: Carbonite. Can you imagine the frustration players would have? Many of the best players, players in the highest Divisions, have low-ish GP. They have made up for it with skill until... all of a sudden... they can't. They are only allowed to be where there fellow, same-level GP players are. I think more people would be angry then than there are now. So, those are the two reasons I can think of. I could be wrong... I have been before. However, I know I don't want GAC to change since my ability to progress is in the present "unfairness" people so often post about. Anyway, I wish you well with your present Grand Arena Championship. God bless.
