GAC squishing

Another season begins, another squish is happening.

You gotta stop this, this is the 4th time in a row that I'm losing 70 points or so.

You have no idea how frustrating it is to fight opponents with much more GP than you, win more than lose, and yet lost points and eventually drop to k3 instead of climb to k1 because of this nonsense.

You got to stop the squishing.

  • It looks like eventually the goal here is to get everyone to matchmake with an opponent with a fair enough GP OR CG will keep squishing everyone down making it harder to maintain at K2-K1 forcing you to buy what they’re selling. Which is it?

It is NOT going to happen - you just do not understand the squish idea.... Either stop bothering or understand why it is like that and why it does not affect you at all. It might not be thematically or ideal way to show your position but thats just what it is. Your position in the ladder. And ladder position is only thing that affects pairing and your crystals.

You do not lose points - everyone is just paced more tightly around and your relative position in the whole player base stays same and only X of the base are in each category. Squish doesnt  affect the GP you fight. Only reason is to show it numerically instead of positionally.

    1) System is made to get your win rate to 50% if you win more you get tougher opps.  > your win rate drops.
    2) System does not take GP into account -> if you win bigger GPs you are better. You get to higher tiers like kyber,
    3) You fight vs players in the equal rank within whole player base.
    4) Your rank like Kyber2 is based on your relative position in the player base. -> Squish is made to keep those levels equal (so that if you are in the position to stay in K2 you have "score" that is within K2 if you are not to stay there you have different score

Alternative way would be that do not show your "score" at all just relative you are 110001 in the K2.

I do agree with you on some points.

The system indeed ignores the GP, since there is the skill rating.

The system indeed designed to get everyone, eventually, to 50%. And that exactly my point. Based on that, a player with a positive win rate should theoretically climb and eventually get into K1, not matter how long it's gonna take. Positive win rate should make you climb. I have a positive win rate each season for at least a year and yet, instead of getting into K1 I'm finding myself struggling to stay at K2.

I'll try to find the statistics of the amount of players in each league to prove my point.

Squish has been apart of this system since day one. Players are fixated on this 50% win rate. But a plateau does not mean you will have exactly 50%. To stay a float has required a few more wins than losing since the start, with different rates of roster development staying afloat is an achievement. It’s very easy to fall through lack of participation or slow roster progression (promoting acceleration through spending). To climb from certain positions has required a near perfect win record to get promoted to Kyber needed this as squish always brought you back to A3/A4. It is much easier since the rework to squish as I sit in K3 happily. But climbing to K2 or K1 are the peak of the rankings I would expect anyone to be maintain a high win rate to earn those rankings.

I think it’s better if they apply squish at end of season rather than start. Seems many can not process two events happening concurrently without complaining about being punished for winning.

While those of us whose victories still get them squished into a lower divisions, it is pretty difficult to also see players (like this one) with less than 5 M GP and no GLs sitting in the top 5 of Kyber 1. I'm not trying to shame this person or claim that they are cheating, only saying that there are some problems in GAC rankings.

I noticed if you don't join, your skill-rating doesn't change. They won't get rewards during the seasons, but they'll keep their top spot forever..

That player isn't cheating, it's just another bug, this one promotes people from aurodium or lower to the top of kyber. It can't help the squish though, putting that many accounts that don't belong there just pushes people who should be there even lower

  • I would be good with the squish if it meant I got squished into some easier brackets, where I am not always punching up.  can't remember the last time I faced a roster where I was like, this will be a cake walk or an even contest.

      Totally get you mate.

I'm so used to face much stronger rosters than mine, that if my opponent has only 0.5m GP more than me, I wonder what's he doing that high...

When I face rosters the same GP a mine, I'm worried the most...

  • I'm at almost 2M GP. 1st round opponent has 8+M GP.  I Lost. 2nd round opponent also  has 8+M GP. I haven't lost yet, but if they play,  they're is no chance I can win.  Very frustrating.  I took 2nd last arena and my opponents were somewhat close on GP.
