Honest question as to who benefits from this system?
Everyone that signs up benefits, so long as there are crystals tied to it.
I haven't yet heard someone come up with a suggestion for a different system that doesn't discourage roster growth.
I can't argue that the two scenarios that you listed are 'fun' - but surely you're meeting SOME players that are giving you close matches? Personally, I love it when my opponents sign up and don't play - or don't play hard. Makes my life easy, and yay, more crystals.
You’re correct that everyone benefits crystals wise. I’m talking purely fun factor. I do not enjoy winning because my opponent didn’t care to attack. There’s no enjoyment there. To directly answer your point, who is hurt with same crystal structure with old matchmaking system?
Everyone suffers. GP based matchmaking always leads to decreased progression as players don’t work up toons which are ‘bad’ at GAC. This means guilds have a harder time filling ops in TB, and have lower total GP for deploying. In TW lower guild GP means lower brackets and lower rewards, win or lose.
Further it stifles progression in GAC. GP bracketing will result in a ceiling for lower GO accounts and a floor for higher GP accounts. This will end in more crystals going to accounts who may not deserve it as much as they engage less than high activity smaller accounts.
Basically, GP based matchmaking and bracketing is bad for everyone.
