It is a fair comment in terms of matchmaking. Personally, I've climbed from Bronzium to Aurodium, basically because I'm willing to invest in the dark side (i.e. datacrons and mods) and thus I am able to "punch up" against accounts way higher than me in GP
I also play fully in 3v3 which I know isn't people's favourite mode and have decent success there
However, it's a horrible slog and I think I've faced less than 5 people in the last 3 months with comparable GPs to mine. The reward for punching up in GAC is harder matchups, think of it like the reward for finishing your work early being...more work. In last week's GAC the 3 players I faced had a minimum of 6 GLs (I have 2) and at least 11M GP (Mine's 8.5M). Sadly they all tried, so I went 0-3 and I've lost this week's first one vs another 11M account
Sadly, this is the nature of the beast. This is not meant to be a game where skill plays a part until you're at the top of the game. At any level below Kyber (and possibly only Kyber 1&2) one side will usually hideously outgun the other. You've just got to find areas where you can potentially get an advantage, but it's a real slog and tbh I'm actually considering rushing Leviathan so I don't have such a crystal reliance on GAC because I'm getting sick of it, but no amount of complaining is going to change it
System was rigged from the start on this one I'm afraid
I'm in Kyber 2, and at times I'm totally outgunned. I see the same thing in Kyber 1 too. You can punch up wherever you are on the tree (apart from starting at the very top of course). Probably, in high Kyber there a lot less unwinnable games though.
You also have to remember, how much GP can a 11 million GP account actually use in Aurodium? I'm 11 million in Kyber and more and more I have good teams left over. I have no idea how much of my GP I do use on average, but my guess is it isn't over 8 million.
I played the old system, but I much prefer it now. I don't want to be watching my GP all the time because of GAC. This was a horrible situation. Also, I think it's fairer now where everybody wins 40-60% of their games. If you or the OP were not, you'd drop back down again, so clearly you are having success.....just having to work for it.....or more accurately, find ways to win.
I think though, it'd be a slog whatever the system. If the rewards are there, the dedicated will work to get them. This way, it's shared out a little bit more evenly as the wins are shared out.
