Jedi Luke still missing ...

There has yet to be a version of Luke Skywalker in any canon media that I would actually want. His Force powers are the weakest of any Jedi seen and his lightsaber skills are laughable. Vader toys with him in both Ep V and Ep VI and only loses in the latter because Luke goes full dark-side and Vader is unwilling to match that level of brutality against his own son. The only actual awesome thing Luke has ever done is blow up the Death Star and he didn't do that as a Jedi.

His actions in Return of the Jedi are also completely irrelevant. The rebels still would have succeeded in destroying Death Star 2 if he hadn't even been there, thus killing the Emperor anyway. The only thing he actually accomplished in that movie was resolving his daddy issues.

It may be that after the events of Ep. VI, he's intended to go on to become the very best there ever was but there's no canon media covering that era so right now, all we have is "Terrible Padawan Luke" and "Old Hermit Luke". I don't particularly care for either of those two. Maybe when Disney releases a new animated TV series covering Luke's adventures after the fall of the Empire, I'll be interested in that version.
