Saying that Thrawn is not a fan favorite is simply not true.
Fans loves Thrawn. He is one of Star Wars most beloved villains. He helped Star Wars in the early '90, when the brand was in bad shape.
Last year, during the Star Wars Celebration, Thrawn was announced as canon and the crowd went immediately insane. I know because I was there.
And, by the way, the new book by Timothy Zahn is very good.
I really hope that the new character is Grand Admiral Thrawn.
