Actually Bus 74 has shown that we do have control over opponent selection. His roster is specifically built to exploit the matchmaking system to get opponents that absolutely have no chance of winning and for which he can solo or 2-man most teams.

No, we do not have control over our opponent selection. We can however influence it through our roster choices. This is not news to anyone who has been paying attention.

And we do not know that his opponents had "absolutely no chance of winning", only that he was able to beat them.

No, "most everybody" has not said that. Some people have advocated for it but by no means everyone.

Switching to ELO would have bigger implications than just matchmaking and it is inherently at odds with the fact that our rosters range from tens of thousands to millions of GP. Any ELO matchmaker would still have to pay attention to GP, there is simply no getting away from it.

If you're getting 1956 in GAC it is because of your opponent. They have set awful teams.

Check that GAC history again. You're not reading it right. They actually set normal defense for their GP range. I see both DR + Malak, JKR lead jedi, NS, Geos, Padme + GR, Shaak Ti + clones, GG + sep droids, Nute teams etc. They are not setting weak teams for their GP range. Yet Bus 74 still undersized most battles.

When you score 1950+ repearedly it's because you carefully theory crafted how to beat the defenses you're up against with undersized squads, built those squads and single characters just strong enough to do their job, modded them well to serve their purpose and saved them for offense. Bus 74 excels in this.

In bold undermines everything you have said and is what is actually being discussed.
Not only does it undermine what you've said here but in every single one of these threads where you try to say match-making is fine when it obviously needs some touch ups.

This Bus74 guy seems to know what hes doing, yes in the battles but foremostly in the match-making.

Now once more, if you're getting 1956 in GAC it is because your opponent has set an awful defence.

Of the top 10 div 1 players, only bus74 has a roster like this.

The number 2, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 players all have s GL which means they also have a bunch of higher relic'd toons.

Number 3, 4, and 5 all have what I would consider.balanced rosters with a mix of relic levels. 3 is even pushing for a GL and carrying some extra relic GP that isn't yet benefiting him as much as it could if it were spent elsewhere.

So no, the top 10 division 1 players do not all have flat r0 rosters. Only bus74 does. So clearly that is not the only path to GAC success.

Don't want to jump to conclusions but his 6/16 round 2 match CLS solos a full GG team is suspect. Can't find the opponent on swgoh.gg so points to anyone that can find it and post.

Would be interesting to find that opponent, though a month has elapsed so we cannot rely on any of the toons involved being in the same state today as they were a month ago when the battle took place.

I could see a relic'd CLS soloing a sub-g12 GG squad but we cannot know if that was the case or not.

Also, are you are saying that he is better at GAC because he pulled opponents who allowed him to be better?

in any event I think we have differing opinions of what better means.

He is better at cheesing/manipulating the system allowing him to not face anyone who would be a threat to him / i.e. have chosen to gear up less PVP dominant and oriented characters.

I would define better as being someone who has to face legitimate competition and emerges victorious. I only have to offer what I see in my experience, so this is my opinion, but if I were to try to replicate any of his praised and heralded "theory crafted" squads, I would simply never win a battle. even at R7 I can not take down a full r7 GG team not even sure if I could take down a full G12 team solo. I can use an R7 GAS to take down an R7 NS team, although I likely would lose some protection where he has not. I assume that I could use Wampa, that is if anyone in division 1 that I face would have the guts to place that in more of a team for division 2,3 etc..., and they were not relic'd and did not have Zeta's. Malak yeah, he can solo about anything for full banners, and I'd personally love to see someone set a Cad Bane lead with Mob Enforcer..

So, yes circumstances are a bit different for someone who is fighting at near 8m GP fighting others with that same level of investment. While I do not 100% agree with the OP that if you have r0 you will be in the top, it sure is a lot easier to not fight a GL, not face actual competition that would require banner bleeds, or not being able to complete almost all of the feats day 1. I do not define that as better, maybe focused, but I would not say they are better than any of the other players in the top.

Wonder who would win if they had a face off / final challenge bracket of the top 8 to claim the #1 spot.. Don't think good ol bus would fair too well..

PS I am not faulting him, he is simply gaming the system that is not indicative of legitimate competition.
