Yes, and this is why I would expect them to end before the next conquest starts, to limit the number who can access the event in the first run.

That's not how the Conquest character/ship works. Anyone who red crated all 3 will have the ship. I think if you buy the pass you can red crate twice and gold crate once, but that is far from forcing anyone to buy the pass for this. All they have to do is have the first run be before the next Conquest ends, which is in just over a month.

I’m afraid you’re incorrect here. The red crate without a pass only nets you 90 a time, and so you can only get to 270/330.

I will concede I’d forgotten a factor myself in the wandering scavenger. It would be possible without a pass to get those missing 60 shards, but only if you’ve also bought every set of shards from the wandering scavenger in all three conquests as well. Otherwise to get to 330 before the next conquest you’d need a pass.

In what world world are you getting red crate every time and not buying the shards?

In a world where I needed more than just Fury for Leviathan so had to buy some signal data and gear with conquest currency. All while planning to get Fury after the first/second conquest of the next season, knowing that would delay Leviathan unlock and being ok personally with that as I couldn’t make it to day 1 unlock anyway.

Plus Fury shards will drop to a cost of 475 rather than 525 for the next conquest so I’ll be saving a little on cost which can be reinvested in gear or more signal data.

Sure - but it is still not correct to state "you need to spend $ to unlock after 3 conquests". If you really want - you can do that not spending a dime. All depends on priorities.

Yes, and I admitted I was initially wrong in that respect a few posts up: I had forgotten quite how many shards were available from the scavenger. Doesn’t change my opinion that the event will end before start of the next conquest as that will make it as exclusive as they are able to, by only allowing access to players who have thoroughly maxed this season whether by paying or not.

That would take 3 gold crates from the following conquest. If you gold crate every conquest, and use the tickets on shards for the newest toon, you will consistently unlock one cycle behind.

65 (gold crate) + 20 (scavenger) = 255 shards (75 short) for all 3 conquests

25 (gold crate when its not the primary reward) = 75 shards

You'd be 75 shards short. So if you got red crate and all scavenger nodes for Conquest 4, you'd be 25 short. So you'd need to either buy a pass or wait until Conquest 5, barring it being in the store. That being said, only getting gold crate on Conquest 4 will also allow you to unlock in 5 with no pad and no store, but again assuming all scavenger nodes. So in order to farm that AND the new unit from scavenger you would need to have plenty of currency and not spend on gear.

The shortest path in this situation if you were only spending crystals would be how long it takes the unit to show up 15 times in the store, assuming that is before Conquest 4 happens.
