not sure why the dislike towards mods
It's not a matter of whether they make battles more fun.
it's about how much time do you have to invest to gain that amount of fun. Too much paperwork kills fun. Control over the complexion of the battle adds fun. The question is whether for an individual player they experience more fun gain or more fun drain. That's going to be different from person to person.
But of course it also matters how much work you have to put in. The more quality of life tools you have, and the fewer things you have to do with mods (like levelling, slicing, discarding, calibrating), the less your fun is killed. But will that bring enough variation to battles if you don't have all those options?
To be perfectly honest, I say yes. A simplified mod system is good enough. We don't need what we have to make regular battles more fun.
So when you say ship mods, people aren't groaning at the idea of variation in the ship battles. People are groaning at the idea of a new kind of energy and 12 new resources plus addition credit expenditures and more.
This is a resource management game, I admit. But we have enough resources to manage. We don't need 12 more, and that's what we'll get with ship mods.
