Players: Thanks, but this char is essentially useless in its current state. Is there anyway we can get more shards for it to make it better?
EA: Sure! Here's this pack that says it can give you 5-30 shards, but it'll only give you 5 every time. Oh, and it's ONLY $20 per 5 shards! Great deal, huh!?
Players: Um, not really.. how long until this char is F2P?
EA: Only 4-6 weeks after another 4-6 weeks in which we try to get you to spend a smaller amount of money on the same crappy deal.
Players: Oh.. well I think I'll pass then. Please don't offer a deal this bad again.
EA: *Continues to offer bad deals and gets constantly berated for it on the forums*
