Material Scarcity - Unicorn Rarity
I’ve been playing for years (10M+ GP) and even spent money on various in-game items, but the current state of material scarcity is just downright frustrating. The drop rates for shards, relic and gear materials are so tight, even with passes, that it’s becoming less of a game and more of a waiting game. Sure, I get there’s money to be made, but buying materials just to make any real progress feels like a chore when the base energy mechanics are this awful. It’s really killing both the enjoyment and the pace of the game.
Right now, I’ve got over 30 characters all requiring Kyrotechs just to become somewhat useful. The estimate is around 3,000 Kyros, and that’s just for getting them up to a decent level—this doesn’t even cover getting them to Gear XIII to move on to Relic levels. And don’t get me started on the other Kyro mats required for progression. It's a ridiculous bottleneck.
Zeta drops are also insanely low, and with most characters requiring multiple Zetas, it feels like you’re stuck in a grind loop. Relic pieces are difficult to get enough of especially now that Assault battles are sparse, and the scrap trade-in route has been purposefully nerfed. This makes the whole process of material acquisition feel agonizingly slow.
And then there's the MOD materials. The lack of consistent drops for these items means that newer players can’t even dream of competing against those who have already established their teams. This maybe a huge reason why many players struggle to get excited for GAC. My account is fairly mature but I do find it frustrating to make mods competitive or upgrade them with any regularity. The MOD cap certainly adds to the general woes.
How can players get excited about new content when the game feels like it’s designed to be so painfully random and slow? A 33% drop rate for anything just makes the odds feel worse than finding a unicorn. Honestly, it’s maddening at times.
I really hope the devs loosen up the drop rates soon. The game is being artificially stretched with paid elements, and I’d love to see these elements enhance the experience, rather than make them feel like a necessity to get anywhere.
On a positive note, I still do enjoy the game. The community is amazing, and the character builds and animations are fantastic. But seriously, Where’s Porkins and his ship already?
