The problem I see is that newer players placing high in squad arena are losing income since they just don't have the GP to be anywhere but a low division. Are they going to quit because they perceive the game as pay-to-play. If newer players quit in mass then the game is on a clock towards death as players who retire won't be replaced by newer players.

Westley has it right. Remember all those times when people laughed at the idea that there should be a way for new players to catch up because they weren't competing against established players? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

That is literally all the new leagues & divisions are going to do, sort newer players to the bottom while established players (who don't mind investing even more time in the game per day) reap similar or better rewards to what they have been getting. Buying the HBD is now a way to get an extra 35 crystals per day, instead of a way to get an extra 350 crystals per day.

Yeah, it's got to be great to be a new player, eh?
