HoYoverse games each make more money every 3 months than SWGOH make annually, yet HoYoverse is the company getting flak for being "predatory" and "expensive", simply because they've made 3 of the most popular free to play games ever. Their games are entirely available to any player that only grabs the characters they like. No meta, no min-maxing, nothing.
CG has done the exactly opposite. Paywall everything, heavily limit which characters can access certain raids, despite most of those characters never actually being there in the first place (Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu and Depa Billaba being usable for a raid based on the events of Operation Knightfall? Really?).
It's also not any easier to build older characters, and LSB's bypass that entirely at a very good cost, but they rely on FOMO for those.
CG don't want their game to make money at all.
If you don't think CG have quarterly quotas to meet, I have a bridge to sell you. In Antarctica. Just because a game isn't as popular or profitable as another game doesn't mean that the makers of the game aren't trying to make a profit. We don't know CG's expenses vs profits, maybe SWGOH is efficient for the money it does make.
