Proving Grounds for the try-hards

Yeah I don't understand either why 7* owners are locked out completely. From how for a couple of times they accidentally let people through, and then fixed the gate quickly, apparently it was not only a conscious design decision, but also a relatively high priority one.

To be realistic, though, that's sort of how CG positioned GLs - they were (originally) meant to be the Endall Beall (see what I did there) of characters. Now, that's no longer true, and certainly I am happy that you have to be somewhat creative to 3-star the PG events, but I do understand where those people are coming from: they feel they're not getting the ROI for a character that they invested heavily in.

That said, I have 3-starred them all (with the help of the community testing out weird and interesting team comps).

I'm not that person, but call me entitled, because I think, "I have ALL the GLs, this should be easy for me," is a reasonable position. At least one GL should walk over each PG battle like it was standing still.

That's how I think about it anyway. Having all the GLs is -- in my mind, I realize this has never been explicitly promised -- supposed to make it so that there's always an easy button in PvE. When they release a new GL, they can also come up with a challenge that frustrates all the GLs available up to that point so you need the new one to have an easy button. The more GLs we get, the more difficult that is, but that, too, makes the "if you have all the GLs, there's an easy button for every PvE battle" kind of implied.

The only place that isn't implied is the Assault Battles, since in those you may not be able to use any GLs, and even if you can, the whole point is to be a challenge for a specific faction or two, so making the GL an easy button doesn't make sense.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I realize that PG doesn't operate on this principle, though I do think it should.

Thanks for posting the reddit link - I'm aware of it, and it looks like the best resource currently. It's helpful as a jumping off point but I'd still like to be able to do some theory crafting with specific characters to help guild mates find winning teams that are within reach for their specific rosters. Just a bit frustrating that the entire community of people who fully engage with conquest (lots of whom probably buy the conquest pass) are locked out of this content.

It's like - if you fully commit and do this thing we want you to do (conquest) you get the new shiny - but there's this other game mode that you'll lose access to for doing so because... why? because... we DON'T want you to engage with this part of the game (proving grounds)?

From a design perspective that's just weird - why create content and intentionally block players from it because they're 'too good' or 'too dedicated' or 'too advanced'? - it's weird. From a social perspective it creates a division between the people that do conquest and the people that choose not to or just can't for whatever reason, because this is a game experience that they can't share - again, a really weird thing to intentionally do. From a game play perspective it puts the player in a situation where if they "win" (do conquest) they can't engage with another part of the game. So - again - weird.

When all of those things are taken together, as a whole - it starts to look like the only purpose of proving grounds is to punish those that don't engage with conquest, or happened to come to the game within the last two to three years. I really don't think that's CGs intention - but it's difficult to draw a different conclusion, and I have yet to come up with one.

I could be wrong, it's been a while but I believe I did the majority of the PG battles with GL, the exceptions being Tie/Int and Malgus....

I appreciate your candor but, by that same logic, nothing non-GL should be able to beat a GL.... That would make for an extremely boring game and some pretty crummy GAC match-ups...

I like OP's idea of being able to battle it even after you have the character unlocked or even being able to battle multiple times during one event for no rewards to improve your star count.... For me, some of the most fun I have had in the game has been testing weird comps in battles and raids with others in my guild and the community trying to do better / improve scores etc.

To be fairrrrr I don't know why they made some of the battles this difficult but they did and, quite frankly, I can't think of another game mode with this level of difficulty where you can't replay battles...

Maybe it's just me, but I miss the days when people used to come to the forums to share solutions, ask for help, brainstorm etc rather than just to complain about difficulty levels and cry foul....

It does still happen occasionally. Someone on here put the triple luke team for tie interceptor on here, which got me 3* and saved me the pain of doing it another 3 times.

But I have to agree with op and yourself, the difficulty spike on the last two PG’s means they really do need people theory crafting methods for those with less available options.

That's not what I was saying at all.

I'm saying that every non-GL PvE squad should be stomped by AT LEAST one GL. That doesn't mean it gets stomped by every GL. It just means 1 out of 7 should do it, and once you figure out the right one, **if you have all 7**, then you should be able to beat that squad with the GL that counters it, but because it's a counter AND a GL, you should be able to walk all over it, not just barely beat it.

Anyway, not sure how the misunderstanding happened, But I'm definitely not saying every GL beats everything. I'm saying that there should be a GL counter to everything, and if you're a GL **and** a counter, things should be very easy.

Then it's up to the player to collect every GL if they always want access to a GL counter.

I would have no problem with a PG tier that was only beatable by one GL, as long as the GL that beat it did so easily and convincingly.

I'm just saying an easy button should exist, not that every GL beats everything. And I certainly never said anything about PvP -- since then we're talking about Omicrons and DCs and all that.

Nope. Just saying that for every PvE challenge, there should be a GL counter, even if it's only one GL, even if it's the least common GL.
