I saw shards would be available in the store . Are these shards also going to be available from the Wandering Scavengers? Would be good to know when choosing to go for a Scavenger node as opposed to a data disk node.

You sounded confident that the shards would be available via a scavenger at some point. Is this a bug or just was the wrong info conveyed? Or were you referring to Hard mode?
