By "doing nothing" you mean contributing raid tickets and then not being available for the 15 minutes that a raid is open?
I do my 600 every day, and I also try to save my attack for phase 4, so that the guys who still need solo shards can place higher. Some days I have been a bit busy and not gotten there in time - and gotten no rewards. I'd argue that I "helped" my guild more by not hitting the rancor and letting others do that damage.
We use a 0-damage phase like most other guilds now, but it's a PIA to manage it. At least once a week someone screws up and hits early.
