If you finish in top of Arena and Fleet, which is possible for some F2P, and you did start farming Vets as soon as they came out in Cantina, and you spent most of your Arena/Fleet-earned crystals on refreshes, having them at 7 stars already was doable.
I love posts that act like #1 is even possible for anyone outside of a very select and lucky few FTP. Hell, even paying players are lucky to end in top 20 on some shards.
If you are #1 in FTP it is by and large due to luck. You got better mod drops faster than your competition, better gear drops and better shard drops. You got decent ship pops in the G War/Fleet shop while the other guys saw Geo Spy and Clone Fighter to buy. That's all that separates you from the dozens of other teams with the exact same lineup.
