Sandbagging at its Finest!
Its not preferable to always make posts that are complaints about SWGOH, so let me start this one off with a shout out to CG for placing the Rebel Y-wing on the same fleet hard node with Greef (both brand new units). That's a nice give.
Now for the complaint: TW...
Us: 50 players, 195m GP, all 50 Players joined, 2 brand new GL's (not maxed out) 5x Relic GAS
Them: 50 players, 249m GP, 39 Players joined, 7 maxed out GL's, 27x Relic GAS
With 22% of their players NOT joining the TW you'd think that a portion of those GL's and GAS would not be in play...and you would be wrong. ALL seven GL squads SOMEHOW found their way into their defensive setup. You'd think that 7 very strong GL squads ALL on defense against an up and coming guild with significantly less overall firepower would be the difference in the TW...and you would be right!
New Players Note: Sandbagging is the permissible technique fully allowed by CG in the Territory War format whereby a much stronger and more veteran guild purposely sits players out in order to reduce the amount of overall GP participating in the TW in question. The higher GP guild drops 1-2 Tiers in the TW matchmaking so as to greatly improve their odds of winning. For example: a 50 player 250m GP guild drops 11 players down to 199M so that 39 very strong rosters will have to face 50 rosters of much less depth and overall strength. (unless they face another Sandbagging opponent!)
Sandbagging is the classic definition of Pay 2 Win. There are not one but TWO easy fixes for this, but CG will definitely (IMO) never put them in place. We all know players want to throw their $-weighted rosters around wherever they can; Arena, TW, GAC. If CG limits the places and ways that the big spenders (aka the supporters of most game development) can implement their P2W advantage then the spenders will leave to another game format where they can.
By the way, the two easy fixes are as follows:
1. TW GP is fixed. Your guild's TW GP is whatever your guild's current GP is. Period. Got 47 players with 184m GP? Your guild will always fight in the 180-200m GP tier regardless of how many players in your guild actually join the TW. Got 50 players with 249m GP, you will always fight in the 225m+ GP Tier.
If your guild has players that consistently don't join and your guild finds yourself battling uphill a lot, you have the option to drop the 'dead weight' - removing non-active and non-joining player from your guild's roster, possibly lowering you to the 160-180M GP tier, for example, that could possibly be a more even fight.
2. CG can adjust the TW rewards. Right now the difference in first place for a 225m Guild and first place for a 195M Guild (Two tiers below) is 200 Guild store currency, 150 GET 2, and 3 kyrotech salvage (plus a few credits). That's it!
CG could easily up the Zetas and Omegas by 1 for the 225M+ Tier. They could easily up the gear and the GET I and II rewards by a bit more. CG could easily incentivize the top guilds to fight at their level instead of Sandbagging.
The vast majority of SWGOH players have an overall negative view of Sandbagging and when it happens to them personally, they despise it.
Arena jostling and rewards happen every day. GAC tournaments run for weeks with only short breaks in between. TW only happens 4x per month. Just fix the TW Sandbagging problem.
