Smuggler Tag

Tags are such a debatable issue here for good reasons. I think the smuggler tag is more so for requirements and events.

So we got a win with the Vets being useable outside of the JTR event. And think for a legendary event- if it were just the scoundrel tag no one would farm the newer solo toons it wouldn’t be so inclined to.
Now the requirements for something like that can use “smuggler” instead of just “solo”

Remember the next toon is not a marquee.

They aren't going to give that tag out to tons of characters when smugglers tag will be needed to get the upcoming legendary event to unlock whoever.

Honestly I'm fine with it. I'm just thankful that it isn't exclusively the solo toons

You aren't aware of "prepared" team synergy? Qira lead with the new solo characters? They even created a new ability just for synergy...

True, but I really doubt more than 1% of the player base own 5 Han Solo movie chars at 7*.

The problem is that in the past they have said that the tags are assigned based mostly on lore. Of course, there are numerous problems with that in the game already. CWChewie shouldn't have the scoundrel tag, for instance. FAT should be Phoenix, and STHan and Farmboy shouldn't be rebels. Given the use of the veterans in the JTR Hero's Journey, they should obviously have resistance tags. But by and large their philosophy of "give toons tags that they would believe they belong to" holds. That is clearly not the case here: STHan would consider himself a smuggler. Ezra too. Even after season 1, Ezra was still teaming up with Hondo more often than not to get some contraband and smuggle it in or out of somewhere. Chopper and Zeb were his standard allies (and Kanan, but at least he disapproved), so Ezra, Chopper and Zeb could be given smuggler tags while not giving them to Sabine, Hera or Kanan. Lando is a corner case and I can understand not giving him the smuggler tag: when he was in charge of Cloud City, he was no longer a smuggler.

In contrast, Nest sees herself as a rebel, and not a smuggler. And in fact, all of the Solo crew are pirates or bandits, not smugglers. The Kessel run wasn't to smuggle contraband, it was to get away from the "cops" after pulling off a heist, and I've never heard of train robbery being called "smuggling" either.

For the first seasons of Rebels, Phoenix would definitely be considered smugglers, literally the first thing we see them doing is smuggling/stealing stuff from the empire. However, the Phoenix we see in the game is from the later seasons where they have pivoted much more strongly to a Rebel alignment and using guerrilla tactics against the empire, not smuggling as much. So I could see it going both ways, but there is an argument to be made based on lore for them to be considered just rebels and not smugglers. Obviously this is really about the money/balance but I think a lore based argument could be made.

The Phoenix squad we have in the game is season 3, based on their appearance and certain special abilities. By this point they're definitely aligned with the Rebels, and are much less smugglers. Game-wise, Phoenix is already able to be used for getting the Emperor, GMY (2/5 jedi), Thrawn, and Chimaera, and any Rebel event (eg. LS TB), so it sort of makes sense that they aren't able to participate in whatever smugglers' event is coming. They're already heavily used.

Smuggling tags for money. Nothing more. Certainly not FUN... oh lordy no. I guess we get the vaguest bone since it's not "just" YOLO toons....

With how CG typically roles, I guess we should all just button up before they decide to change the terms of this agreement..............

Based on the dev description of what tags should be included, Phoenix should definitely have the smuggler tag. They got the “cargo” tag for ships... but I guess it should say “legitimately paid for cargo”.

Look we all know what conversation happened in that meeting. “Everyone has the Phoenix faction built and almost no one has the Solo toons. If we give Phx the tag we can’t gouge them later for the legendary that we’re planning. No smuggler tag for the group that are clearly smugglers (bangs gavel)”
