Speed - highest speed always acts first?

I have a problem with speeds in arena. I thought I knew how it worked, but maybe I don't.

We both run Wiggs with Lando. I have Shoretrooper, he has Anakin. His Biggs is faster and he runs Lando as lead.

The relevant speeds are:
His StHan 202, his Biggs 173
My Biggs 172

He starts on defense with Biggs & 2 guys. I normally run Wedge lead, but switched for test.

My Wedge and Lando should now give my Biggs a speed of 172 + 15 + 45 = 232. Yet his StHan always goes first and it is game over. His speed should be 202 + 15 = 217.

I suppose what happens here is that I always lost the coin toss (the usual...) for hitting max tm. Then when I switched Lando to lead in last (fifth) attempt he called StHan when in previous attempts he always had Anakin giving help.

Looks like I need to spend time to get a cross or triangle for Biggs with a few points of speed, but rather annoying that AI has the benefit here every single time.

why are 99% of the posts about turn order/speed about wiggs and st han? xD

Because many people don't read/understand the abilities and don't necessarily realize that the speed listed is BEFORE any adjustments due to bonuses, abilities or effects, but that it DOES already include all mod bonuses.

And because math is hard. :/

No, the math is simple. What I was not taking into account is that the game really isn't random but heavily favors the opponent.

Examples are many, but e.g. practically every time JE is called for an assist with IG86. What I had going on here was losing the coin toss every single time (well, 4, a huge sample :) and with added speed on 5th instead of Anakin his StHan was called. At least the last part showed that not every time is StHan called :)

Another issue is that we have game mechanisms that are not described at all, including how the assist is chosen.
  • Also, if he's using Lando lead too and his ST Han is 202 (217 from Lando) and your Biggs is 217 from Wedge's unique, then that is a coin flip because they are equal speed. If ST Han gets called for Biggs assist then yes ST Han can gain some TM there as well. What's your full squad loo like? Speed definitely matters here, even just 1 or 2 points.

at random. It does kinda bug me that IG86's and 5's assist abilities have "call a random ally to assist" in the describtion, but QGJ's and biggs' assist abilities only state "call an ally to assist" and "call an assist" respectively. More consistency in the wording would have been nice.
