As a gamer since 84 I have played a ton of games over the years. Each system and era has had good and bad experiences, going to focus on the bad here. I understand the point you're making here.
But I do remember the Commodore 64 version of Robocop, which was brutally unforgiving, when I finally made it all the way to level 7 ... only to find out that I couldn't progress because the graphics were corrupted. Ocean released it bugged, and there were no patches in those days!
Actually, to answer your question honestly, we do tend to forget just how bad previous games have been. ;)
