The future of shard farming?

With the release of new toons arriving in hard mode battles and cantina battles and the frequency of old toons being removed from extra nodes what are the odds that the devs will have to find a new shard farming tactic? I doubt that they will completely remove a previously existing toon that could only be found in hard mode/cantina battles for the sake of new players. However since no toons/ships will ever be added to the various shops like galactic war, squad arena, etc either old toons will eventually be removed outright to make room for new ones to prevent players from taking advantage of winning multiple shards from one battle (kuiil and tie bomber for example) or something else will happen to prevent players from getting more for less.
