The Kessel Run only for the online store?

So I noticed that the Webstore offers the coexium along with purchases. However if you were to buy the same deal in game, the easier of the two options, you recieve none. I just made a hefty purchase of 100$ for crystals in game however upon my refresh noticed I was coaxed out of rewards.

My point is why is it set up that way? Why is it I have a linked account between the store and the game? Shouldn't the stores be equally linked, CG gets the money all the same don't they?

Why bother buying anything in game any longer, you lose out on rewards. I mean I could of had 10,000 coexium yet because I bought a pack IN THE GAME I AM PLAYING I get squat.

I know that it is a webstore promotion however a little heads up in game would of been Hella nice. Why the separation? I check the webstore every refresh, I normally buy crystals from the webstore, just saying the two stores should be linked and any extra rewards you tack onto purchases should be linked. The fact it's separated is bull, combined with the fallout of the ERA system.

The real heist here is CG screwing over the player base. Train wreck after train wreck since Leviathan.....

  • It used to be that when you purchased things in the web store you got a discount.

Now there is no more discount: folks spending money in the web store pay exactly the same price as in-game. In exchange for cancelling the discount, they're giving some bonus rewards through the Kessel Run feature. Exactly how useful this bonus currency will be remains to be seen. It's unlikely to impact me at all.

As for why the discount once existed and the Coaxium bonus currently exists, that's because they want you to log into the store every day. They're trying to make that enticing. In-game purchases are obviously more convenient, so they have to induce people to come to the web store some other way. That way used to be discounts and now it's Coaxium.

And, finally, why should they want people to log into the store every day. Obviously the reason is money. Can they monetize some of your personal info through the web store in a way that they can't through the game? Probably, but that's not the main motivation. That more important motive is that when you purchase in-game, Apple takes a cut when it happens on one of their devices and Google takes a cut when you're playing through GooglePlay.

So the "discount" people used to get was just passing on their savings when they got 100% of the money (less the expenses of the web server) vs. 90-something% of the money from in-app purchases.

Some game developers aren't big enough to justify the programmer time to create their own separate server for in-app purchases, but EA is. This is a multi-billion dollar game, so the % of purchases that Apple and Google take amount to very large total numbers. So the better question isn't why do webstore customers get a bonus program. It's why don't they get a better one?

  • Can someone tell me where you even see how much coaxium you have? I don't know if I'm just being blind but I can't find it anywhere and it feels weird that its not next to the crystals and ally points on the webstore.

The entire point of the webstore was they dont have to give 30% to apple or google.  So, they open their own store and our savings was 5%, which is better than 0%, but they keep 25%...now they take it away for some lowere end in game rewards so they get to keep the extra 5%.  It is all about how much profit can they ger, not what is accptqble profit. Just like all companies anymore it has to be more and more.  If you pull in 100% more than last year, it isnt 'good job', it is why wasnt it 105 or 110%? It is the worlld we lice in thses days.

  • Well how about now that I bought the conquest + pass through the store and was gaurenteed 3000 coexium and got squat?

  • As for reasons to buy things in-game, I am quite sure that the webstore doesn't accept free Google Play bucks. nor give Google discounts/promos.

  • My account is on Google play. You can't buy webstore with Google play. That stinks.

It is just about corporate greed and who gets a cut of what.   The mega corporations develop devices, software, intellectual property, etc.  It takes significant capital to do that.   Then they go to war over business models to see who gets the biggest cut.

Consumers take the hit in most of this. In some industries, government regulators can step in.   In something big tech related, there is no way anyone in government can  understand it.

So, we keep getting the shaft unless we file a lawsuit.  Most of what they are doing can be construed as illegal.  Problem is,  you'd need to lawyer up and find justice system that can make the right call.

If you think google and apple need 30% of every sale to maintain a profit you're nuts.  I laugh when i hear them claim they need that because of the infrastructure they had to create to process payments, etc...Visa/MC/etc have done it for decades at about 3% and it doesn't get passed on to the customer either. Yet, Apple/google/etc need 10x as much? please. No one is saying they should give the service away, but, they shouldn't flat out gouge for it either.
