In TB where you have to platoon things, having a couple different leaders/squad concepts you can use a toon with is actually helpful, so when you deploy one leader (or one toon that breaks the squad concept, like Kyle) you can still put some of those toons to work.
I'm LS heavy, so I am able to do that sort of thing up to r7 LS, but not DS. DS seems less plug-and-play anyway. So I'm not as worried about gaining more LS the way you've laid out. I mean, sure it can be useful, but it's not necessary to my mind based on the number of teams required for GAC and TB (and TW, I guess?)
