This game is better for newer players

I've been at this game for almost 1 1/2 yrs, and the recent updates have made it so much easier to farm stuff, it's like things are being given away. My friend started in January, and he's already at lvl 65 and has unlocked more interesting characters than me.
Can the devs give the lvl 85 players like, a stimulus package or something? Or at least a gear exchange, so I can get rid of some of this surplus crap that has been building up for so long?
  • Yep. They don't reward older players at all.

They need some event that rewards people who have played for time, not levels.

Funny you mention that... they actually tried that with a series of events last fall and into the winter but somehow those events got smacked into orbit, partly also because of terrible feedback on forums

Yes, I do know they were shut down because of game terrorists but the official statement by tophat said that it was bad feedback from the community that led to the closure of those events

they were arguably better for players < lvl 80 though. Personally i didn't mind tournaments, but i wasn't competing for top spots so there wasn't much not to like; free rewards and free battles.

They were not ideal for players level 80-84 or those that had just reached 85 that's true. Still they did reward deeper rosters and longer loyalty by reducing the cost when spreading the workload. The reward structure was very limited and could be adapted for a future return but I always liked them apart from the fact certain people could terrorise their way to the top, which is an issue of the type of game though and not to the tournaments themselves
  • Sorry completely disagree...

I started late last year... and was completely locked out of a lot of content for a long time because I just plain didn't have access or characters needed. No Palp, no yoda etc It seems most events came out I just couldn't even play. It was boring as hell.

The reworks, AAT raid, new events give the long-time players benefits due to the expanded rosters new players won't have until level 85 easy.

Then there was the 80 level cap and a one team raid (pitt)... long time players got to level and gear up toons they might otherwise not have, like Jawas, droids etc. While newer players had to continue to gear their primary (most likely arena/scoundrel) teams. Yes I was hitting level 80/g10 with my first squad when 85/g11 was released... talk about a moving goal post. I had to farm 3 more teams for AAT right of the gate.

Long time players could have a leg up on Ships (see level cap point), Falcon if you were insane enough to buy has 2 old meta characters. FOTP needed for mod challenges might have already been half way done and now can be used in ships etc.

The game improves, the meta changes... deal with it. While not 100% efficient time matters a lot in this game. Those that have played from the start have deep benches which is helping them... The improvements and a few wasted characters are first galaxy problems.

While yes I think new players if they read up can have an easier time if they farm the right people in the right order but ultimately they still are severely hampered by not having 4-5 full teams. I know I did and was lucky to catch enough of the wiggs meta to stay near the top of my shard (and a ton of money).

Better for newer players? Good. More players coming to the game means there's more life for this game ahead. While you say it's better for newer players, I say it could be better still!

Instead of tiering the events "level 20, level 40, level 60, level 80" etc, why not just put out a difficulty tier tailored for a person's level, something like GW? I mean, I'm level 85 and I can simply auto battle through all of these events without even paying attention (sometimes the last tier is tough, though!) so in a sense, I may as well just log in and see "Hey, here's a free character, enjoy." instead of jumping through would could basically be called hoops.

If the tiered system was a scaling difficulty based on your level, it would be a more engaging experience and allow everyone, regardless of level, to achieve unlocking as many shards for a character as possible. Just because most of us are 85th level and been playing a little longer doesn't really mean we're entitled to a handful of extra shards that lower level players do not get, does it? I mean, isn't that needlessly unfair?

To some extent I think you are right and everything makes sense. I think thought that longer time players getting marginally more shards is not needlessly unfair, I think it is a way of rewarding loyalty to the game but I guess opinions may differ on this.
