It’s about time that this gets dialed down a notch, or raise those junk rewards on par with the difficulty of that mission. The rng in that is all over the place. You can 3* it one day, then never win...

It's not so much about how to "beat it". It is about the fact that you face 6 phoenix squad who are all zeta'd out and are loaded with at least 200% TM from the start. It is significantly RNG biased.
It can be done, but like the OP says, it sucks to go through all of that and you get lackluster rewards. Same as most mythic tiers where you get a whopping 2 omegas for finishing it, which can be time consuming. Because of the omega crunch and every new character that comes out needing 15, 20, 30, 50 omegas to max out, you can't not complete it. (even if this particular event doesn't get you omegas, which is really a what the heck moment.)
Oh and I use Thrawn, EP, Vader, DT, and Royal Guard to complete it.
