Unbalanced Matchmaking in Grand Arena

I keep getting matched in Grand Arena against opponents who are way stronger than me, and this is not the first time.

My GP is 2.5 million, while my opponent has 7.5 million GP. People often say that matchmaking is based on “skill”, but in this case it clearly isn’t. Our skill levels are not the same at all.

My opponent has Galactic Legends, far more characters in relics, and a much deeper roster overall. This is not a fair or competitive matchup — it’s basically decided before the fight even starts.

I understand that GAC matchmaking can’t be perfect, but situations like this make the mode frustrating rather than competitive.

  • I’ve been playing for two and a half years. I log in every single day and I have never missed a GAC. I’m an active, consistent player — not some casual who shows up once a week.
And yet in all this time, I’ve had exactly two matchups where my opponent’s Galactic Power was slightly lower than mine. Maybe around 15 times my opponent had roughly the same GP as me. That’s it.
Every other matchup? Their GP is routinely two or even three times higher than mine.
How is this even remotely acceptable matchmaking?
This isn’t competition — it’s a joke. Most rounds don’t feel like a battle of skill, strategy, or roster management. It’s just me sitting there waiting to see if the other player even decides to attack, because in a real fight the outcome is obvious from the start.
That’s not engaging. That’s not fun. That’s not why people invest years into building their rosters.
And the worst part? This isn’t a rare complaint. Tons of players are saying the same thing. So why does it feel like the developers are just ignoring it?
GAC is supposed to be one of the core competitive modes of the game — but right now it feels more like a lottery where smaller accounts are just there to be punching bags.

It’s based on skill rating, how many you win or lose impacts it, so you are facing an opponent who is bad for their GP / roster development or who is inactive / sporadically active. They will get the same rewards for winning or losing so it does not benefit them to be so low. The system works much better once you progress up, there is a period where new players meet sporadically active players, hence the point they will likely not show up. Not every match you encounter will be like this so if you continue to develop and participate you will move up. On an alt I played this happened once or twice a season so it was rare enough not to be an issue and often they either did not show up or was my only loss in the bracket, it’s not a big deal in the long term. To put it in perspective when you plateau at the skill rating suitable to your roster you will win on average 1-2 per bracket so facing one opponent per bracket that’s more powerful is very normal, it just feels worst when you are new to GAC and excited to play every round. As you progress you will see a clear increase in competition as you rise up ranks, in terms of activity, size and quality of roster.

  • Yeah, I understand what you mean, and I agree — that’s unfortunately how it works right now.

But hoping that the opponent simply doesn’t play isn’t really a solution.

CG should rework the matchmaking system so that Grand Arena is decided by actual competition, not by roster size gaps or luck. Otherwise it just feels bad for the smaller account, no matter how well you play.

  • Even I’m a bit weary of these. It’s not a perfect solution, but the best you can hope for is for them not to play. It doesn’t feel rewarding, but it’s the best you’ll get, unfortunately.
