Coliseum issue

Todays Zeffo task started off at tier 2 and not tier 1. Also playing tier 2 it took over 2 hours to complete to 100%. I ended up playing with auto on. It took 15+ minutes to achieve 1%. Luke was 4 stars and level 33. It feels unless I pay for upgrades this activity has no beneficial rewards to move Luke levels up.
