Re: iPhone 11 Pro Max Performance

I’d just like to add my experience too. I upgraded from iPhone 8 plus to 11 pro Max and noticed the very first day that the app made the phone get hot and drive the battery down very fast. Just looked at the battery use on both phones and I went from 23% on the 8 to 64% on the 11 Pro Max! Something is definitely going on, because I never spend more than 2h top a day on the app

  • Any update on this @CG_MindTricks ?  This bug makes the game unplayable at times (and often it's at critical times like in a Sith raid, or GAC, or TB)...What't the plan to correct this, and what are your thoughts on this?  Thank you.

@yasonfyehald Hi there, we retested the game today on iPhone 11 Pro Max and didn't notice any performance issues.
@EA_HighCommand uses an iPhone 11 Pro on a daily basis and didn't notice any performance issues even after continuously playing the game for a few hours.

You can try the following to see if it improves performance:
    - Make sure your iOS version is up to date
    - Regularly restart your device
    - Never leave the game running in the background (once you are done playing, force close the app; don't minimize it in the background)
    - While playing the game, make sure there are no other apps running in the background
    - If you use any sort of VPN app, try disabling it and see if it affects performance in game
    - If you haven't reinstalled the game in a while, try reinstalling every few months
    - Make sure you are connected to a strong and stable network (especially when playing battles in GAC, TW, TB)

Let me know if any of these steps works.
    Thank you.

I have been dealing with this same performance issue ever since I upgraded to the new iPhone 11 Pro. I had tried everything except for deleting and reinstalling the game. After do this, the issue so far seems now to be resolved. I’m cautiously optimistic at this point.

  • Hi @CG_MindTricks!

I have been through the ringer of testing every trick in the book. I’ve contacted your support staff and opened 4 tickets and this issue has not been resolved. The issue persists even if it is subdued by a restart or an uninstall and reinstall. I went as far as to blame Apple and the Genius Bar associate and his colleagues insisted it was software related. There must be something wrong in the code and I encourage you to take this back to the engineers and open a high priority ticket.

The length of this issue is approaching a years time and in the software world, that is unacceptable. Please let us know what steps you’re taking to help resolve these issues.  Communication and transparency would be much obliged.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Well uninstalling and reinstalling seems to be only a temporary fix unfortunately. I am having to do this every few days to keep the game running somewhat smoothly.  So... this problem remains unresolved... >.<

  • @CG_MindTricks Imagine this being the level of support you offer given the money people are paying to play this game.

Do you think the hundreds of users here, and the hundreds of users on Reddit and other forums are just lying that it’s extremely laggy?

My iPhone is brand new, fully updated, recently installed SWGOH and the lag is insane.

If you aren’t able to replicate it then you aren’t doing something right.

I can also confirm this has been a HUGE problem since upgrading to the 11 Pro. As mentioned before, it definitely has something to do with the A13 chip as I never had issues on my iphone 7, and obviously everyone can confirm any < A13 chips works fine. I've since swapped my 11 Pro with the iphone SE (2020) that, of course, has the A13 chip, and experience the same problems. I'll easily drain 10% battery within 2-4 minutes in certain aspects of the game... that's completely unacceptable. I can play any other highly CPU/GPU intense game out there and drain 20% of that. It's very much a memory leak issue, which is why reinstalling/restarting the phone gives temporary relief.

There is clearly some CPU optimization issues going on here and it really blows my mind that CG/EA are totally ignoring this very widely spread issue. It appears to be the case with 4x battle more than anything... but with the game designed the way it is (and because it's so painfully slow), playing anything less than 4x is completely pointless and ends up in timeouts half the time. I've tried to open up multiple discussions with them but they're never "available".

CG/EA -- You do realize that the great majority of your player base is very close to being checked out of this game due to the terrible nature of how you've run this game, especially since the release of the GL garbage and the way-too-soon Jedi Knight Luke release. I'm trying to hang on because, like everyone else, Star Wars is my absolute favorite. The least you could do is fix this horrible issue that's going to end up blowing out all of the iOS users' batteries. If you really can't figure out your issues due to incompetence level, at least give us the ability to toggle off all the shiny crap that's making it worse. I'd accept playing with stick figure animations if it meant me not destroying my large $$ phone investment.

Same issue on iPhone SE 2. SWGOH performance on the new phones compared to 5 year old iPhone 7 is night and day, and not in a good way.

  • So this long-standing issue is now 100% resolved for me. Since the game upgraded to using the newer Unity engine, the frame rate is silky smooth.

It looks like the older Unity version was the problem all along.
