Bug Report: Pink Soup/Texture memory corruption is still happening
I know other threads have already been started for this issue, but I'd like to use this one as a means to summarize the experience many players are having with this particular problem, because this one is particularly well done even since before the re-release.
As a reminder, the release notes for The Sims 2 Legacy Collection states the following:
Texture memory corruption and “pink soup” are fixed
As of the writing of this post, this issue is in fact not fixed and still occurring for many players, independently of the fact that they use mods or not. I'll link bellow a number of examples:
- In this video, the player encounters the bug while loading a bunch of Thumbnails from the Neighborhood decorations catalog
- In this other video, the player had encountered the bug while playing an household
- In this Steam screenshot, the player is on a lot during live mode
- This other Steam screenshot also shows the player playing on a lot with only vanilla content
- Another Steam screenshot were player encountered the bug in Neighborhood view and no mods apart from a terrain texture replacement
- Another Steam screenshot were player encounters the bug while in live mode
Many players have also been "stress testing" the game to confirm if the issue had been fixed: [1], [2].
Hopefully this serves as a starting point for further investigation. Some players have reported an improvement in the issue when compared to community-made fixes to the Ultimate Collection, notably this player who plays a heavily modded game.
I would like if this thread could be turned into the "main" thread for the issue, so as to make it easier to group related issues in one place. If you report your own experience of this bug, please remember to attach a copy of your DxDiag and/or Crash Logs (if a crash happened shortly after the game started "pink flashing") which you would find in: Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 Legacy\Logs (it is typically named something like "Sims2Exception 2025.02.04 01.02.03.txt").
I'll be sure to edit or comment this post in the future if I encounter the problem myself. I have a few previously made neighborhoods where I was encountering the issue very frequently on the Ultimate Collection, that I'd like to try my luck on.
