Sims 2 legacy - suddenly crashing no error message

I am having the same problems. Whenever I exit a family to go into the neighborhood, it would crash. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, saving before exiting the family (the game would crash and reset to before the lot was loaded), and repairing the game through the EA app. I want to keep playing The Sims 2, but not when the game keeps crashing every time I exit a family.
