Sims 2 Legacy - Unplayable

So disappointed, i’ve spent $60 on the bundle and i can’t even play the sims 2, it crashes every time i try to create a family, move in a already made family or start any gameplay. its ridiculous to take someone’s money and release a game a lot of people can’t even play due to this! it comes up with:

 “Direct 3D returned an error: D3DERR_INVALIDCALL! this application will now terminate”

i just updated the game this morning hoping it would be fixed and it’s still the same, has anyone found a way to fix it? i’m so close to refunding it.
