Sims 2 Legacy resolution scaling off

Hi all,

I have had issues with the game's resolution being incorrect and being unable to get my in-game resolution settings to stick once the game was restarted, but with today's patch the resolution is still off (game is sized wrong and is cut off to the right side of the screen), and additionally the resolution options are grayed out in the settings. I have repaired and reinstalled my game, but this did not fix the issue, any ideas what it could be? Screenshots attached and PC Specs.

I don't even get why EA thought it's a good idea to change game made for exclusive fullscreen to borderless fullscreen. It makes no sense. There were no issues with exclusive fullscreen, so, what's the point? It makes no sense at all. Seriously, EA, reroll this change ASAP. It just brought so many issues and did not solve any problem.

The solution you provided dosn't work and my sims game is all messed up since this patch. Also all sorts of cc i downloaded is glitching out. I just want to uninstal this patch, my game worked perfectly till now.

    Hey, everyone!

I second everything that is being said here. I too play on a laptop and this game has been perfect for me up until this patch. No matter what, the UI is just far too small for comfort now. I don't have any vision problems and also don't want to acquire any by playing this game lol. Hoping that we can get a fix for this soon!

  • this is a terrible news... we paid money for this, we shouldnt have to do these things to be able to see UI 😐 I hope they take this under consideration while making another patch...

  • romosim christiegreville SuzanaRose You can try setting the game to run in Windowed mode by default; in EA App, click on the three dots on the Sims 2 icon, click on View Properties and add "-w" (without quotation marks) to the Advanced Launch Options field, then save. That should prevent the game from launching in Borderless, and hopefully preserve the resolution you select. The downside of this is that the game window may not cover the entire screen.

Alternatively, you can change your screen resolution in system settings, to make the game adapt to your selection when you switch to Borderless, but it will affect your entire system unless you keep switching only when you play.

Unfortunately, Fullscreen mode seems to be gone and has been replaced by the Borderless mode.

  • Hi EA_Cade

I have the same issue, i play on a laptop and the screen settings were absolutely fine before this latest update. I now can't get a full screen mode at all despite using ALT+ENTER and selecting the resolution settings. As romosim states, whatever the screen resolution is set at it's still all too small. Hopefully EA fix this quickly for laptop users who don't want a headache from squinting.

    Hi EA_Cade

I pressed ALT+Enter and changed the resolution in Windowed mode, however if I restart the game, the change to the resolution settings do not stick, and I am back to square one. Any idea why this might be happening/ways to fix? Thanks for your response btw!

what to do to go to previous default resolution? I play on laptop and the current UI is so tiny the game is unplayable for someone with poor eyesight like mine 😭 I can't change it in settings... it's greyed out but currently it looks bad

  • Heya romosim

This is due to the change called out in the patch notes here:

    • The Sims 2 now uses a borderless window to provide the fullscreen experience

In order to change resolution now, you'll need to press ALT+Enter to go into Windowed mode, then the resolutions shown in your screenshots will not be grayed out anymore.
