Sims 2 Legacy Won't Launch

Hi, every time I try to launch the Sims 2 Legacy Collection, the icon appears on my task bar like it's trying to load, but it freezes my entire computer to the point that I have to hard reset, and the game never launches. I have tried running as an administrator. I can't even try to change graphics settings or enter windowed mode because it won't even launch to a main menu or anything. Just freezes the whole computer instantly. Any help would be appreciated.

This is from the EA app itself, not Steam. My PC has good specs and is running Windows 10.

Thanks for the replies! I actually got the game to work by enabling windowed mode from the properties menu with an old hack I found on Tumblr LOL By adding -w to the end of the target, it instantly fixed the game for me. *Note that I am also running as an admin and using compatibility Windows XP Service Pack 3 in case that made a difference as well.

This also doesn't seem to want to work from the EA App itself. I have to use the shortcut on my desktop, but hey! Progress has been made!

I tried all these steps, and my game still won't work.

  • If you right click the icon and click properties and click compatibility then from that menu make sure the disable full screen optimisations is ticked then click apply then try running the game it should work it worked for me

That sucks. Before I did the above, I also updated my drivers including my Nvidia driver as well as:

Open Windows Settings > Apps, scroll down to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, and uninstall everything from 2015 and newer. Don't touch the older versions.

Download the x86 and x64 versions (not the ARM version) of the 2022 runtimes from Microsoft:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

Install the runtimes, restart your computer, and try to play.

    Have you tried those?

Hi, thanks for the reply, but this didn't work for me :( I click "test the program" and it freezes the same as it did before, and I have to hard reset, which means I can never click "next" in the trouble shooter. I don't know what to do about this. I've tried running compatibility for Windows Vista as well with no luck. Thanks for the attempt though! I appreciate it!

I had this problem too but I figured out how to fix it.

I right clicked on the desktop 'sims 2' icon and selected 'open file location'.

Then I right clicked on 'Sims2EP9' and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility'.

Once it has detected issues select 'Troubleshoot program'.

For what problems do you notice I checked 'I don't see my problem listed' then clicked next.

For which version of windows did this program work on before I checked 'I don't know' then clicked next.

For what display problems do you notice I checked 'I don't see my problem listed' then clicked next.

You will come to the test compatibility settings for the program page.

It will say settings applied to Sims2EP9:

-windows compatibility mode: Windows XP (Service Pack 3)

-user account control: run as administrator.

Click 'test the program' to see if it will work for you as it did for me.

Troubleshooting said the issue was an incompatible program.

I'm sure there is a simpler way to say all of this but I walked you through everything I did.

I hope it works for you too :)
