The Sims 2 crash - Bad return code : D3DERR_INVALIDCALL

Hi there,

I just installed the sims 2 from steam recently. The installation went fine but everytime I played, the games always crashed. I'm not sure how to fix this but I did receive the below error message. Please let me know if anyone has experience with this. Thanks

Make sure your game is up to date. There was a patch that addressed a D3D graphics card error. Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date. If it still happens after that, and you can at least get into the game, try setting the graphics options lower and turning off shadows.
