FINED?! A penalty for this?!

Yup, I've had this happen before, guess the game wants your house to burn down, guess they figured not many would attempt to put out small fires with a FIRE Extinguisher.Very annoying tbh, and I have had happen with break ins as well with the cops.

lol Yeah, I've always thought how screwed up it is. Sometimes ya gotta bite the bullet and put it out anyways knowing you'll be fined if you think it's going to spread fast and kill sims. Another option is to skip the fire alarm if you want your sims to put it out. *shrugs* Not sure why the game is programmed this way.

Instead of trying to be in control the last fire I had, I sat back and let whatever happen. The fire almost took out an elder sim with 2 days left. I would have been so mad. That's just not fair. :D I was surprised to see how much the fire spread but it could be the cluster of objects together catching. Also, I've never experienced neighbors showing up on the lawn to watch?? :|

I've had this happen before, the scolding by an annoyed fireman who it turned out had nothing to do by the time they got there and the fines levied, as well. I've even had my sims scolded by an annoyed newspaper deliverer who refused to deliver any new papers to a vacant lot they owned where no one was cleaning up the older papers (I did that on purpose though). No fines, but he said he would "think about" delivering some more once the mess is cleaned up. And this from a child, see these Service Sims are trained to be annoyed and react accordingly from a very early age. I've also had the repo sim get very angry when he turned up to collect on an outstanding §2 tax bill and there was nothing for him on the lot to repossess except a mailbox, trash can, and well of course some old newspapers that he would have been welcome to take, but nothing of any real value to him.

Let's just say the game has a very unusual approach to authority figures in general and how competently or otherwise they interact with our sims. ;)

Fortunately, I haven't had many fires happen or the scoldings and fines, but it was annoying when it happened. Maybe if the firefighters didn't take so long to get there, there'd still be a fire for them to put out! As it is, I'm glad that many of my sims autonomously put the fires out, themselves. I've had some close calls, but no deaths.

I agree with @igazor...many of the authority figures in my game or more often than not, very incompetent. Firefighters, Police Officers, Baby-sitters. Okay, so baby-sitters aren't authority figures, but they're very useless in my game. I mean, when you're in the firefighter profession, your sim is the only one doing all of the work! The rest of them just stand around and order your sim around! No wonder they can't get to a fire in time!

Oh, the Firefighter Ambitions career is hilarious (and a different case, not so much one of authority). Yes, your co-workers frantically run about the fire station waving maps around and screaming into communications devices if they are on duty when your sim responds to an emergency. That is, until 5pm or whenever their shift ends and then they pack up and go home even if the emergency is still in progress. So helpful. :p

@igazor I love the Firefighter career. I actually love all the Ambitions careers with the Investigator and Ghost Hunting ones being my favorites. I always have my sims leave at 5pm too unless they're trying to get that body skill point or are trying to upgrade that fire engine that's so painfully slow until you upgrade its horsepower about 10 times.

@kaitlyn0 Especially when your sims look so ashamed. It'd be funny if sims reacted different ways depending on their traits, like a hot-headed or mean-spirited sim would yell back. :lol:

I've also had the firefighters who get to the scene on time, but then stomp around and act like something is in the way, then leave saying "I can't get to the fire, looks like it'll have to put itself out." I'm legit yelling at my computer screaming "There's nothing in the way you useless piece of dung! Get back in there and do your job!"

That happened to my sim once, and it really made me quite angry, not sure why but it did. Anyways, I decided to get my sim's money back from whom ever. That sim happened to be a witch who knew how to cast fire. So I set a smoke detector outside the house, and proceeded to have her catch her own yard on fire. It ended up being so large that it took every single firefighter in Bridgeport to put it out. After it was all over and done, my sim ended up with something like 48,000 semolians for fire damage from the insurance company. The funny part was nothing was damaged, so it was all profit. Lets just say that shortly after that my sim finally got her witches lair added on to her home. >:)

Once, in one of my games, the firefighter didn't show up until an hour after the fire. If my sims hadn't put it out themselves, they probably would have lost everything. But of course, the firefighter fined them.

Unless you've modded it. Since tunning the chances in my own game, the burglar always gets caught... But then the cop says "Stay here by the car while I survey the house." :D Funny thing is, they stay put... next to the cop car with the engine running.

I make sure the police always win now. I use NRaas Master Controller to give the police officers level 10 in athletic and martial arts skills.
