Game not using my graphics card

Hi all

I bought a brand new PC I customised myself specifically with Sims 3 in mind. Even though this is a new PC with much better everything the game is very laggy. I looked around and saw the problem may be with the game not using my actual graphics card so i went to the Nvidia control panel but I don't have an option to change graphics card. I looked in the DeviceConfig.log and under my graphics card it says this:

=== Graphics device info ===
Number: 0
Name (driver): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960
Name (database): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960
Vendor: NVIDIA
Chipset: Vendor: 10de, Device: 1401, Board: 237519da, Chipset: 00a1
Driver: nvd3dum.dll, Version: 10.18.13.6191, GUID: D7B71E3E-5741-11CF-4562-78031CC2C735
Driver version: 6191
Monitor: \\.\DISPLAY1
Texture memory: 32MB <>
Vertex program: 3.0
Pixel program: 3.0
Hardware TnL: 1

I read that if it says 0 for either of the found or matched it means your graphics card is not recognised. I followed the link on how to get your graphics card recognised but it's the same steps that failed above (going to control panel and selecting the graphics card for use), I don't have an option to change the graphics card. Here is a screenshot of what I mean:

On the left that is what the step showed to select. The right is how it looks for me. I am on Windows 10 if this contributes to anything. I'm stuck on what to do from here so I'm asking here. I would really love to play a game with little lag. I'm pretty disheartened that I spent all this money for a new PC only for the game to work worse than it did on my old one.

Oh yes I do have CC, not that much, I have some hairs, a few lipsticks and couple items of clothing. The only script mod I have is no mosaic. I had more but I purged my game of almost all of it to see if it made a difference, none. I am playing and medium-low settings (annoyingly enough). Thanks guys.
  • Your welcome. If its running fine don't worry about changing the sgr files .
  • Just gonna update. I ended up editing the sgr files. I thought it hadn't worked because my game (although running much better) was still laggy. In fixing another issue I deleted all my folders and let the game remake them. After that my game started to run really well! There's not a single bit of lag even with more CC than before. I can run my settings high again!
  • I'm having the same issue I've followed all steps to have the game recognise my GPU, changed NVIDIA control panel settings , and enabled vsync. I'm still having the issue!!! What was it you did to fix it ?!

Hi there. This thread is from over three years ago and I'm afraid it will get shut down due to the no necroposting rules if we try to have a conversation here. Perhaps you could repost on this thread and we can continue? Also please tell us which graphics card you have.
