Hindsight 20/20 - What Good Advice Were You Given and Ignored?

When I began playing this game back in 2012 I didn't really know what to do with it. So, I began looking for 'tips' online as to get some sort of idea as to how other people played. One piece of 'Good Posted Advice' I came across was this:

"When creating Sims, create a bunch of them all at one time. Create some to keep in your library, it will eventually save you time in the future as your game progresses."

Fast Forward to today.

The kind of game I play is very realistically detailed. I find I am always in need of Sims to fill one role or another. Or, to be trained as support (back-up) if one of my main world Sims should die or heaven forbid corrupt. To date I have almost 800 Sims spanning many worlds. Some of those Sims were born, others of them were re-made from original townies, some were downloaded from other Simmers; but most were created by me. I have spent a lot of time over the years stopping my game play because I now needed a Sim to fill a role which wasn't in existence when I began the save. In hindsight, If I had only heeded the advice someone took the time to post, I could have saved myself an enormous amount of lost gaming time.

So, what's your story? What good advice did you come across which didn't seem valuable at the time but in hindsight proved to be right on the money?
