How many houses do you think is the right amount for a world?

So I am back in a Sims 3 mood and I am just rejigging my town, I use Ridgeview in Summer but Rflong7. And I was wondering how many houses do you peeps think a world needs? What do you think it the right number? I have never really playing long enough to fill up a world, previously I have had terrible computers that would crash and destroy the game if I played a world for more than 3 generations. So now I have a decent computer and don't have to worry about hardware issues I can have a really multi generational game. So now I am wondering about the housing situation and was hoping for other gamers advice and experiences.
  • It depends on how detailed you plan on designing them. More detailed lot decorating = less lots should be used, (Though that will also factor into who will be able to move in because of the family's funds, so don't go into detail too much). After looking at this comparison of some worlds though I've made a conclusion...
    Examples:
Appaloosa Plains has 10 empty houses and 21 occupied houses, 31 out of 69 lots
Riverview has 16 empty houses and 27 occupied houses, 43 out of 95 lots
Starlight Shores has 8 empty houses and 26 occupied houses 34 out of 73 lots
Sunset Valley has 17 empty houses and 25 occupied houses, 42 out of 92 lots
Twinbrook has 12 empty houses and 28 occupied houses 40 out of 82 lots

There should be no more than half of the total lots as houses. 8-17 unoccupied and 20-28 at the most occupied.
So consider how many lots there are, divide it into half, then subtract a few more if you feel like you need more community lots. Also consider lot sizes too.

Sorry forr the long post... trying to be as helpful as possible!
  • Thanks guys for the help. But to clarify I don't want a new world, I am not interesting in changing I love Rflong7's Ridgeview in summer. I was simply curious about what number of residential lots people think is a good number for their worlds, I think this world is a medium world. I usually haven't gotten far enough in a world that I have ever had to worry about population so I was asking the players who have more long term worlds how many they houses they think is enough.
  • A lot. I’m in generation 4 Riverview and all of the houses have been filled. I keep having to evict newly-spawned sims so that townies have homes to move into. I’d say you should have at least an equal number of occupied houses and empty houses for future generations to move into.

    Awesome!
I would start out with about 30 built houses; Small, medium and a few larger houses. Most with just basic stuff inside until you play them. :)

Apparently, if you have empty houses you don't want random sims to move into, just remove the fridge. The house will stay empty and you can easily add a fridge when you have a household ready to move in.
  • @telmarina all good, was useful info anyway lol.

So far I haven't had the game move in any sims, the only sims in houses are the ones I have made and place or their offspring. I haven't changed any settings or anything it just hasn't happened, which to be honest I am quite all right with since I have be some what micro managey with the gene pool lol. I counted up last night I have a total of 63 houses with 26 on them occupied and space for another 10 maybe.
  • @Rflong7 ahhh my sims hero posted on my thread lol. I only use your worlds now and I think I have several of your houses too. Ridgeview in Summer is my absolute favorite. I think I have filled it to the brim with lots now, there are only a couple of empties left. I am even trying to make a few of my own piers for house boat to make the beach a bit livelier. Although as it turns out its harder than it looks and I don't have a flare for the creative it seems lol.
  • Note, I do not build my own lots. I just place lots a either download from the exchange or ones from the bin or copied from other worlds.
I already have a world, in which I have placed all the community lots and quite a few houses. I have also populated it with 10 households to start out. I just haven't played it in a while so I am doing some tweaking now I have returned. Tidying up lots, reorganizing households. Which is when I started thinking about how many residential lots I should have. I had originally just placed them in neighborhoods, in areas that looked residential. But I never thought about how many I would actually need. Which is why I am just asking other gamers what they use, what their worlds are like etc.
  • There are worlds optimized by modders that make the game really smooth. I believe the modder name of the worlds i've installed is Ella. But someone may be able to confirm. This worlds have a good amount of houses (all optimized so that sims won't get stuck causing lag) and comunity lots have much more visitors i believe because sims walk much better in the world. I don't know how many houses this worlds have but because they are optimized you can add a few more houses than the ones they already have without lag.
