Sims 3 (64-bit & Metal) missing from Mac library + Store content won’t download

Hi, I really need help because I’ve been dealing with this for days and multiple EA advisors haven’t been able to fix it.

I’m trying to play The Sims 3 (64-bit & Metal) on my MacBook Air (2022, M2 chip), but the game is not showing up in my EA app library at all.

Here’s what’s happening:

  •  I was told by multiple EA advisors that the 64-bit version has been granted to my account
  •  It used to show up in my library before, but now it’s completely gone
  •  I only see the 32-bit version (which doesn’t work on Mac)
  • The 64-bit & Metal version is NOT visible anywhere (library, add-ons, etc.)

On top of that:

  • When I try to download and run the version in my library (the 32-bit version), it crashes immediately ("The Sims 3 has unexpectedly closed")
  • I cannot download ANY Sims 3 Store content
  •  The launcher gives me a download error when installing content

Things I have already tried:

  •  Logging out and back into the EA app
  • Fully uninstalling and reinstalling the EA app multiple times
  • Clearing cache (multiple times)
  • Restarting my computer
  • Trying fixes provided by EA support
  • Downloading content through the launcher and browser

Nothing has worked.

At this point, it seems like:

  • The 64-bit entitlement is either not properly applied to my account
  • OR the EA app is not syncing my library correctly on Mac

What I need help with:

  • Getting The Sims 3 (64-bit & Metal)** to actually appear in my EA app library
  •  Fixing the issue preventing Store content from downloading

If anyone from EA or the community knows how to fix this (especially on Apple Silicon/M2 Macs), I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

  • KaitlynsCorner  If the game is installed on your computer and the launcher opens at all, you have the 64-bit version.  It's not necessarily labeled as such, but the old version is entirely 32-bit, including the installer, so you wouldn't be able to do anything with it if that was what the EA App installed.

Do you now see "only available in Windows" in the EA App, or do you see a version of the game you can interact with, or nothing at all?  If you can open the launcher to try to install Store content, it sounds like the game is already installed and you can launch it, but let me know if you've since uninstalled and can't reinstall the game at all.

As for the launcher failing to install Store content, that's a known issue on the newest versions of macOS:

Launcher crashes when I open the downloads tab in Sims 3 | EA Forums - 12167613

The game crashing when you try to launch it is separate though.

Hi, thank you for the explanation — that helps a lot! I’ll try the suggested fixes for the Store content downloads.

Right now, the main issue I’m still having is that the launcher keeps crashing even when I am not trying to download content, and the game itself won’t stay open for more than a few minutes after launching. Even when it does open, it crashes shortly after starting.

Do you have any recommendations specifically for fixing the launcher crashing and the game closing a few minutes after launch?

  • KaitlynsCorner  Try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  If the folder copies rather than moving, or you see it downloading again, or you get an error when trying to move it, stop here and let me know.

Otherwise, when you open the launcher, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If this works, the problem is something in the old folder, and we can try to figure out what that might be.

If it doesn't work, try again but with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi before pressing Play.
