Storytime - Coding Doesn't Stop Determination
Hello, Fellow Simmers,
I like developing and playing in tiny map worlds, there's just something very cozy about them. Maybe it's because they have smaller populations where I know all of the sims. Or, maybe it's because I get to watch firsthand as these Sim's individual stories develop as their collective world evolves. Whatever it is, I find them to be very enjoyable.
Currently, I am developing Nilxis' Hylewood world for my Sims to occupy. Hylewood is a beautifully crafted, empty, undeveloped world with fifteen buildable lots. I have two Sims who live in the world, who are helping me develop and test my lots. Because my development of Hylewood is a work-in-progress, I have turned off all animals, tourists and Sims who may want to move in to take up residency to stops them from entering.
Or so I thought.
Recently, it came to my attention that three Sims had been sneaking into my world nightly when everything was quiet. Until now, I had no clue they had been visiting. A few nights ago, I decided to take a break from working on one of my residential lots to continue working on the town's school. The school is a two level non-rabbithole build which has the elementary section located on the first level and High School on the upper.
There is also a basement in this build which will later become the location for the cafeteria, gym, bathrooms and showers, for now it is used as make-shift storage for some of the learning objects which have to be placed in the classrooms. In its current state everything is basically a thrown-about unfinished mess. None of the classrooms on either floor had doors on them despite a couple of the rooms being complete.
Anyhow, I was in edit town mode when I went to work on the school. In zooming down on the lot, the first thing I noticed was that the lights on the first floor were turned on. The lights are set to auto-light when a sim enters. Since my build wasn't active and my Sims hadn't been sent in to upgrade the school yet, those lights should have been off.
I exited edit town mode and went back into game mode, since the school is set as a no-visitor community lot, I knew I could get into it to have a look around. And, sure enough, the lights had been tripped by two Sims. The guilty sims were no longer there but the evidence of them was left behind, plain as day on both of the sculpting stations I had stored in the basement. One sim had made a Chinese style sculpture while the other made a pedestal which asked for donations. Seeing this made me laugh.
Because it is my habit to work on the worlds while my sims are sleeping, I had to wake one of them up and direct them to the school. I wanted to know who was breaking into my world and the only way to find out was to have my Sim view the sculptures as the name of the artist is always a part of the info. My sim came, viewed the art and soon I had the names of my trespassers.
Since I now knew there were Sims who wanted to learn secretly entering into my world, I added doors to the completed classrooms where the drafting tables and art easels are. I also added a door to where the toilet stalls are just in case nature calls. However, I pushed the fronts of the inventing tables to the wall and added a few fire alarms just in case.
In my game, I won't deny learning to any Sim who wishes it and especially not to any Sim who has found a way to get pass the 'closed off, do not enter, stay out and go away' coding.
A few sims days after I had learned of their presence, I met two of the three sims, a female and two males. They still come into the world under the cloak of darkness, but they keep pretty much to themselves. For the most, they stay out of my way by keeping to the side of the island I am not focused on at that time. They spend their nights practicing improving their skills in music, acrobats and art. Sometimes, I will watch them and other times I just say hello and keep to what I am doing.
In time I will invite them to stay and craft a small home for them. I will find employment for them in roles which will benefit the town. As I see it, these three little rouge sims are a part of my Hylewood's history, it wouldn't be right not to offer them a place in the world that they broke all coding to get into.
Excuse the mess:
