Triggering a specific opportunity

If not averse to using mods, this one fixes the limited non-celebrity opportunity by phone call glitch that came about with the final EP, Into the Future. Further, NRaas MasterController can allow you to trigger particular opps by name or category, provided that the requirements for receiving them have been met.

I don't think there is a non-mod solution for this one.

It may have been the patch that came out alongside of ITF (that was 1.63 and its successor, 1.66) that caused the issue. Now I'm not sure, but it does sound like you are getting the same symptoms that those of us with the EP have. Either way, that was the end of the meaningful bug fixing patches from EA because the TS3 development team was by then disbanded.

The patches that came later and are considered current now, 1.67/69/70, did nothing to change the game files any further.

It was ITF itself that caused the issue. Due to a few challenge rulesets I help manage, I've tested it on 1.63 up to 1.69 and if you disable that EP, skill opportunities come in. And they won't when ITF is on and you don't have the mod fix.

Worth testing yourself? Who knows. That op title isn't immediately familiar to me...

I had to google this and found that this opportunity is only available if the sim has a writing skill level between 1 and 5. If they get a higher writing skill before this opportunity appears they won't get it.

NRaas MasterController to trigger an opportunity to begin isn't widely known for corrupting games. NRaas DebugEnabler to grant credit for an opportunity without actually playing through it might be a bit riskier.

But you could, if you have the time and inclination, make a Save As copy of your game first so that you have a safe place to revert to if something does go wrong the MC way.

I don't think it was the EP itself that broke the opportunities, because I didn't buy ITF until long after it came out, but I was having the same issue ever since the ITF update.

That was what I was remembering as well, for the same reason.

I don't think so. My sense is that when the sim regains their skills that have been reduced to 0, they will still have credit for the opps they completed prior. But again, you could test this out on a copy of your saved game if you don't want to risk anything at all to the "real" one you wish to play forward.

Now I see that the bug fixing version is only for when ITF is installed as per the developer's notes, otherwise it will have no effect. But they also offer a More Opp Phone Call variant that requires the base game only. That kind of mod can't truly break anything unless you have another mod that tries to change the exact same game resource at the same time. But regardless, it would be totally removable if it produces unwanted results.

Does it matter if I have Into the Future installed? I mean, if I don't, but the game is up to date, does the problem still exist?

Not much to test... like I sayd, I uninstalled that EP. Perhaps there are files that are still there and I can replace?

I already knew that. I tend to proceed with skills so when I heard of that opportunity I realized I probably have never encountered it. So I decided this time I will wait for it. I'm still level 1 in writing, But how many days are suppsed to pass before I get that opportunity?
