If you use s3Pe, try uninstalling s3pe and then reinstall it.
That should re-assigne package files to s3pe (or at least give you the option to do so)
If you or someone can reply one more time, I had to re-install my sims and I did exactly what you told me to, all packages are associated with s3pe, and all icons are s3p's, is that okay? Can it work like that? xP
Yes. That's fine.
If you double click on a file they'll be opened with s3pe but the game itself does not care about the associated program.

If you are having any issues like lets say the package is the main icon but you accidentally changed now you don't know hoe to change it back click on properties and rhen click on change then there u will see all of your options then choose the main icon the one is was before you accidentally changed it to the non main icon I hope this helped if you dont understand then I will post it on youtube!^^
