Can I install Sims 3 Expansion Packs on a pre-owned base game?

I've had the base game for years now and bought it second-hand, and therefore am unable to register it because it has already been registered with the previous owner. I don't remember installing it via Origin (I have an Origin account, but the game doesn't show up there so...) but would I still be able to add on Expansions Packs if redeemed in Origin?

@ahoybritannia Probably not as you have to use Origin as the DRM for this game and that means you would have to redeem the activation codes in Origin which would mean you would have to have the base game in your Origin account. Any new or reinstall of this game requires an Origin account. Adding packs requires the game to be in Origin as most (all?) packs have been updated to work with Origin and not the old DRM.
