Reinstall the base game only, no packs yet, download the Super Patch (digital download version) from here, and run it.

This version is definitely not outdated. I've used it on Origin installs a couple times in the last month, and it's fine.
By the way, this assumes you're on a Mac. (This is the Mac section after all.) If your computer runs Windows, let me know; that would be a different conversation.
Thank you, I appreciate your time! However, it appears to still not work for me. The patch will not work and my Mac will not even attempt to download the Sims installer correctly (claiming its outdated). The screen shot provided is what I get ever time with the patch.
@brilynn30 Does your Mac run Catalina? I should have asked earlier, but the usual Catalina error message is very specific, not the "finalizing" issue from Origin but a prompt to troubleshoot in a way that's especially unhelpful. Anyway, the point is, Sims 3 in its current state doesn't run at all in Catalina, and there's no way to even install it. The game is a 32-bit app, and Catalina is 64-bit only.
This will change at some point, as EA has announced a 64-bit version of Sims 3, to be released (hopefully) sometime this year.
In the interim though, your only options are to play on another computer, to install Windows on your Mac (via Bootcamp or Parallels), or to install Mojave on an external hard drive or USB stick and boot into that when you want to play. For Windows, you'd need enough free storage to accommodate Windows and Sims 3, plus more for Windows to maneuver, and of course some left over for macOS; for Mojave, you'd need temporary access to a Mac still running Mojave or earlier.
