Crashing after 20-30 minutes

Recently my game has been crashing after about 20-30 minutes of playing. The most recent crash log says:

ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x9c220134

address: 0x005c7f27 "C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3.exe":0x0001:0x001c6f27

There was another crash log from yesterday that said something about an error with the d3d9.dll file but I deleted that log without thinking. I know it's not my mods, cc, or save file because I tested without mods and in different save files and it was still happening, and I never had this issue until just recently so I don't know what's causing it.

Hey, sorry for the late reply, but I think I actually fixed the crashing issue. Before seeing your reply, I went ahead and redownloaded directx_Jun2010_redist.exe from a post that you made a few years ago that I found when I installed TS3 on my new PC in 2023 and it wouldn't open until I installed the DirectX. I thought I would just give it a shot and reinstall it to see if it would fix the issue and it seems like it did because I just played the game for almost 2 hours with no crashing with my mods and CC and in my lepacy save file.

  • vex_fc1  Did you test without mods and without custom content at the same time?  If not, please do so now.  You don't need to save your progress.  This is key because some cc is not a problem at all until a sim is wearing it, or the wrong sim is wearing it, so it can lurk for a while before causing a crash.

Access violations are by themselves too generic to be of much use, and yours doesn't come with any other details that would help narrow down the cause.  The d3d9.dll-related error is similar: this is a component of DirectX 9, which has to be installed and working or the launcher wouldn't even open.  When this kind of error happens, it's almost certainly that something else is calling DX9 incorrectly.  That something else is often bad cc, although there are plenty of other causes.

So please test a new save in Sunset Valley with no mods or cc present.  If it's fine, you can test your existing saves with no mods or cc.  If your existing saves still crash, please let me know which world(s) you're playing in.

If the SV save crashes, then the problem is elsewhere.  In that case, please let me know whether you've taken steps to limit your in-game framerates.
