[CURRENT ISSUE] sims 3 64 bit & metal keeps crashing?

@Satinisim  Thanks for the info; it's helpful to be able to compare with everyone else's.  Are you sure your laptop can cool itself properly while you play?  I don't know whether excess heat is contributing or not, but it's certainly a possibility.  To let your laptop cool effectively, play on a hard flat surface, elevate the laptop so hair can flow underneath, or use a cooling pad or fan.

Are you saying that the bugs that my game experience is because of my computer being too hot? & I will try your advice thank you

@Satinisim  I'm saying that performance issues and even crashes can be caused by excess heat, although there are plenty of other causes.  When computer components start to overheat, they throttle performance to protect themselves, which can slow down almost any game on almost any system.  Since this is a hardware issue, not a software one, it doesn't show up in error reports or crash logs and doesn't respond to software-based troubleshooting (e.g. a clean user folder, uninstalling and reinstalling the game).  And given the way your laptop is built, it's worth checking.

I'm as well having issues with my game crashing! Specifically about 10 mins into playing, it completely shuts down without warning - no rainbow cursor or anything. I've tried playing without pets in my household, as well as keeping my laptop elevated so it's able to cool. I'm not really sure what's going on.

@jomiller44  Please attach your deviceconfig.log, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.  You'll neeed to manually open the folders; the file won't show up in a search.  You can delete your user and computer names, about 25 lines down, but there's nothing else in that file that can identify you.

I've got a similar issue that I'm not sure I've seen posted anywhere.

My game sometimes loads up when launched with no troubles and goes right into the game.

But more often than that, I hit the play button and it opens a window like it's going into the game but it's just my desktop in an altered screen with a rainbow cursor. I "repaired" the game a few times and that worked at first but now not even that is working.

So I've been having the same problems as everyone else and I think I figured it out. My game was shutting down as soon as I loaded a family, so I tried reinstalling, deleting my mods, clearing caches, etc. and none of them worked. Turned down my settings to low and put it in windowed mode and it worked fine, but when I try to take it back to full screen that's when it crashes again. I think it's the game being in full screen that makes it shut down, and perhaps the settings don't actually need to be on the lowest options!

@musicisforlife97  Have you tried playing on the minimum settings, with the game in windowed mode?  As the poster immediately below you mentioned, it might be enough to simply play in windowed mode—hit cmd-enter to switch at the Main Menu—but if not, please try lowering your other settings as well.

If that doesn't help, please move your entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just see whether you can load a new save properly; it's a good idea to test a few times, to see whether the problem recurs at all.

I would try to minimize the screen and minimize the graphics and all that but the game literally won't even launch for me anymore lol. 

I hope EA fixes it soon.
