Uninstall your most recent EP then download and reinstall the digital version from Origin. Instructions here.
i already did that, didn't work. but i have another idea: does it have to do with old sims 3 folders i have on my desktop? do they cause this issue? should i delete them?
They shouldn't do but I never rule anything out when it comes to Sims 3!
So long as you are playing the digital copy of the latest EP, deleted every trace of the disc version you had installed, and installed the digital patch, then it should work. Are you sure you deleted everything? And definitely used the digital patch, not the region specific one?
am i supposed to play via origin if i download the digital patch? or can i still play with the cd and launcher?
The whole point is NOT to play with the CD. And no, you shouldn't need Origin to play.
so when i patched my base game with the digital patch it worked out (without my eps), but then i`ve installed my eps (late night and generations) and that same error message came up..afterwards i patched the game again with my eps installed still didn't help. what should i do now? 😕
Try it without Late Night. That EP seems to be the source of so many issues.

You've uninstalled it including all the hidden files that quickly?!
i just deleted my hidden files and opened the game again..same error message..☹️
Move out your user data folder from your Documents folder and try again. It's bizarre it's not working for you. What version of OS X are you using?
so i took out the sims3 folder out of the ea documents folder, started my game and still didn't work..i'm using version OS X 10.11.3
